I was reading the Jesus Creed blog tonight, what a wonderful blog Scot has. While reading the Kingdom of God series I clicked on the comments to read what the other readers had to say. One gentleman made a great point about how sowing is as important as harvesting. It really Got me thinking.

So often we focus on the reaping (conversion, alter calls, and etc.). We honor those who we send out to reap the harvest, but how often do we honor those who are sowing? Think about it, one of the most important things in and agriculture society in the sowing. Without the sowing you never get the harvest, yet too often in our churches we only worry about the reaping. What would it look like and how would it affect the church if we paid more attention to those who sow? What if we put more of an emphasis on small conversations and the caring for others?

Could it be possible that the reason many believers are afraid to share their faith is because of the expectation of always closing the sale? I get the feeling that more people would talk about their faith if they realized it was a part of the sowing and reaping process, even if their friend or co-worker didn’t respond. Could it be that the little conversation with our neighbor is as important as the alter call? I think so. Could clearing the driveway of snow for the single mother be as valuable or more valuable than trying to walk her through steps so we can “get her saved”?
